Costume jewelry first arrived on the scene back in the 1920s in the United States but it did not become widely popular until 1940s when Hollywood stars began to wear it in films and real life. Consumers, and particularly women, were crazy for this great looking and highly affordable jewelry and it flew off store shelves.

Today costume jewelry is just as popular as it was back then. This type of jewelry is often designed to look like the top brand name designer jewelry on the market only it is made with imitation gemstones and rhinestones and with metals that mimic gold and silver. You do not have to be rich to own this type of jewelry nor do you have to be a Hollywood star to wear it. It is widely available for sale online as well as in local department and discount stores.

Another type of jewelry that has taken the world by storm is cubic zirconia jewelry. This type of jewelry features Cubic Zirconia or CZ which is a synthetic gemstone that mimics diamond. It is widely available set in rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and watches and costs just a fraction of what diamond jewelry costs. CZ looks so much like diamond that it most usually fools the casual observer. In fact, you would have to be an expert in jewelry to tell the difference between a piece of jewelry featuring CZ and one set with a true diamond.
